MySQLDumper : An Alternative Database Backup Tool September 8, 2011

Posted by Tournas Dimitrios in Mysql.

MySQLDumper is a open-sourse PHP/Perl based tool  ( released under the GNU-license )for backing up MySQL Databases , it’s especially suited for shared hosting environments , where you don’t have shell access . It may be an good alternative to phpMyadmin for easily dump your data into a backup file and –if needed — restoring it .

Usually hosts configure their environment to an maximum PHP-execution time of 30 seconds .This configuration makes backing-up large database impossible .  MySQLDumper uses a proprietary technique to avoid this problem . It only reads and saves a certain amount of data , then calls itself recursively via JavaScript and remembers how far in the backup process it was . The script then resumes backing up from that point .

The process is simple , just download the script to your desktop , unzip and upload the  folder  on your host’s root directory . MySQLDumper is running under any operating system , just start the script in your browser under “http://www.yourDomain.com/path_to_mysqlumper/” .
